Aloha! March 25th Casey and I went to Hawai’i thanks to Ron (Casey’s dad) we were able to go and not have to worry about our puppies! We visited Oah’u and The Big Island with my (Jennie) family. We had a fabulous time! We Left on the 25th at 6:25am, 3 planes later (with an unexpected delay in Salt Lake) and we were in Honolulu (local time 5:47 pm!)
For the whole trip it was the trip for the great Menehune.. the mystical creatures of Hawai’i. Maia (on her) first trip to Hawai’i found a shoe of a Menehune and she wanted to return it to the rightful owner… Menehune give a present to people on their first visit to the islands.
this is a picture of a Menehune…
On Oah’u we visited the Dole plantation and got a Dole Whip and a pineapple cheesecake with a macadamia nut crust (yum!).
We got to talk a private tour of some of the Lost set (as in the TV show that was filmed in Hawai’i and is no longer on TV , my brother Ben knows the owner of the property he let us tour the set and while there we were looking for frogs (the real reason we went on set)) and Hawai’i five o set.
poison dart frog with a tadpole

part of the Hawaii five o set
We went had the BEST shave ice in the WORLD (even President Obama went there)… in case you were wondering shave ice is similar to a snow cone but it is like eating snow. We checked out some amazing waterfalls (including one from the TV show Lost).
Waterfall featured in Lost
We saw some turtles (Honu) on the beach including one that had to have some fishing line cut off of it :(. Two turtles on the same beach :)
Went to the Ala Moana mall and of course went to the beach.
We also drove past Chinaman’s hat.
We watched the sunset on the beach of Ko Olina on our last night on Oah’u.
On The Big Island we had a personal guide to the island! Ben and Ashley’s friend from Hawai’i Jimmy showed us around. We went to the beach (of course!). We watched a Luau from the lobby of our hotel. We went to Hilo the next day (the other side of the island) to go to Volcano National Park.
On the way we went Akana/Kahuna falls an arboretum, and an orchid garden.
We went through a Volcano tube it was awesome! In the Lava tube we had many caves that we searched for the lost Menehune… but sadly no Menehune..
We went to see some petroglyphs and search for more Menehune.. Maia decided that this mystical place would be the perfect place to leave the shoe for the Menehune.. so she did and the Menehune was so grateful to get her(?) (it was a pink shoe) back she left Maia TWO chocolate covered macadamia nuts! The petroglyphs were super awesome to see!
We went to the beach again and saw turtles in the water diving for food and just hanging out in the water.
A little hard to see but the blob in the water is a turtle!
Maia also learned to boogie board and Akai wanted to learn too!
On our last day on The Big Island we kind of just hung out just did some shopping, went bowling, got another shaved ice, and just waited relaxed like the locals do :)
We saw so many amazing animals (geckos, fish, turtles) and plants in Hawai’i and were amazed at how many chickens and cats were randomly walking around.
The weather in Oah’u was great always sunny with random rain showers. The weather on The Big Island was the most random, the Kona side of the island was HOT and the Hilo side was chilly and we had to wear long pants and hoodies, it was crazy but Hawai’i is amazing and I wouldn’t mind living there :)
Well you probably have heard enough of my rambling and seen enough of our pictures.. all though we do have over 600 hundred :).. so I will end my blog post with 1 last picture of Hawai’i.
Aloha and Mahalo,
Jennie and Casey
